Growing Minds began as just one school garden in 2002. Since then, the program has grown to encompass school gardens, local food cooking demos, local food in the cafeteria, and farm field trips. And, since then, thousands of students, parents, teachers, Child Nutrition Directors, and cafeteria staffers across the region have experienced the value of locally grown foods and formed a connection to their agricultural heritage.
ASAP believes Farm to School is an important component of a thriving local food movement. It opens markets for farmers and brings fresh local food—and the faces behind that food—to children and families. And that's what ASAP is all about.
ASAP needs your support to ensure the success of Growing Minds and our other programs. Here are some examples of what we can accomplish with your contribution:
- $1,000 expands markets for farmers, whether a grocery store or a local restaurant.
- $500 brings a class of school children to a local farm.
- $100 funds a cooking demo on how to prepare fresh foods.
- $50 trains a farmer in new business skills.
