As Farm to School continues to grow, farmers and other community members will look to Cooperative Extension for help implementing Farm to School initiatives.
Roots Garden Mini-Grants
What is a Roots Garden Mini-Grant? Thanks to a generous donation from Roots Organic Gourmet, ASAP is offering seven competitive mini-grants of up to $250 for school gardens for the 2012-2013 school year. Mini-grant recipients will be required to submit a brief written summary and provide at least five photographs of children in the garden (with parental permission)

Cabbage Soup
From The Giant Cabbage – An Alaskan Folktale by Cherie B. Stihler, this soup has enough ingredients that everyone in the classroom can have a job cutting vegetables.
Watering the Garden lesson plan
Students will learn that plants need water just like people and animals need water. They will explore dry and wet soil and be able to describe the difference between them. They will be introduced to a rain gauge and its purpose.

Through garden exploration, students will learn about the properties of soil and why soil is important to plants. They will closely observe soil and practice tallying and reporting results of soil experiments.
